Dr. Bohm has thirty years of experience in the practice of laboratory animal medicine with a focus on nonhuman primate medicine and surgery. As the Associate Director and CVMO, Dr. Bohm is a member of the TNPRC senior leadership team, which includes the Chief Operations Officer and the Director. He shares responsibilities with the Chief Operations Officer in advising the Director in financial affairs, administration, development, growth management, strategic planning and master planning.
Dr. Bohm provides leadership to the animal resources program as Chair of the Division of Veterinary Medicine along with the Assistant Directors of Animal Resources, Collaborative Research, and Clinical and Research Medicine. He is the Director of the Tulane University Laboratory Animal Medicine Residency program.
Dr. Bohm’s research interests are focused on the development, refinement, and characterization of nonhuman primate animal models and animal resources for biomedical research. This includes development and enhancement of infrastructure such as animal housing and use facilities and equipment, as well as, better characterizing and improving the health of nonhuman primates used in research. He has been the PI on a number of resource grants and had significant responsibility for ensuring that these and other animal facilities improvement projects were completed.
Dr. Bohm is currently PI on two NIH funded U42 SPF rhesus monkey colony development grants, Co-PI on a NIH funded R24 Primate Infectious Disease Resource grant to characterize the rhesus monkey gastrointestinal tract virome, PI of a Bill and Melinda Gates subcontract with the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center to develop monoclonal antibodies for HIV prevention, and PI of a NIH funded Simian Vaccine Evaluation Unit (SVEU) Task Order.
